ISIS EXPANDS ITS “STATE”: Almost a year after the ISIS terrorist organization’s shock capture of Mosul, Iraq's second city, the black flags of the jihadis have been raised over Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province to the west of Baghdad, seat of Iraq's increasingly theoretical central government. Nobody talks of Mosul or recapturing it from ISIS. It is a forgotten city. Now it is all about the fall of Ramadi, the neighboring ancient Syrian city of Palmyra in central Syria and beyond. Although many leaders dismissed ISIS as vainglorious when it declared its cross-border caliphate in eastern Syria and western Iraq last summer, in its cohesion and purpose it is now seen by some - particularly Iraq's minority Sunnis - as more of a state than the Iraqi government it is fighting. "Simply put, ISIS is, or is on the verge of becoming, what it claims to be: a state," wrote David Kilcullen who was a key player in the USA 2007-08 Iraq troop 'surge' and a close observer of the rise of ISIS. He argues that unless Washington and its allies urgently change their counter-terrorism strategy the threat will only get worse. "ISIS fights like a state. It fields more than 25,000 fighters, including a hard core of ex-Baathist professionals and Qaida veterans. It has a hierarchical unit organization and rank structure, populated by former regular officers of Saddam Hussein's military," added Kilcullen. It controls territory that includes major cities and covers a third each of Iraq and Syria. It has its own military and security force, an administration that runs daily life - schools, government offices, utilities, hospitals, taxation and a judiciary system that follows sharia law. Its resources are vast, including oilfields, refineries and agricultural land. It operates more like a regular army with a recruiting network, training camps and a propaganda machine. (J. Post)

An Arab terrorist purposely ran over several Jewish teens on Thursday, 14 May, 2015. Four teenage boys were wounded in a car terror attack, at the entrance to the town of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem. One of the boys is in serious condition. The three other victims - all 16-year-old students - are described as being in light to moderate condition. Magen David Adom paramedics arrived on the scene and evacuated them to medical centers in the capital. Paramedics described the scene: "When we got there, we saw at the junction on the side of the road, near a bus stop, three boys of about 16 lying on the ground. They were fully conscious and suffering injuries mainly to the face, the pelvic region, and the lower extremities.” The Arab driver fled the scene immediately after committing the attack, but was detained by security forces shortly after. A resident of Hebron, he is now under interrogation by the Israel Security Agency. (Arutz-7)

NETANYAHU: NUCLEAR TALKS CONTINUE EVEN AS OFFICIAL SAYS IRAN HAS GOD’S APPROVAL TO DESTROY ISRAEL: The lesson from World War II is not to back down from an extremist regime whose platform includes genocide and conquering other states, PM Netanyahu, referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Netanyahu quoted a senior Iranian official who was cited in Iranian media on Wednesday, 13 May, 2015 as saying that Tehran has God’s permission to liquidate Israel. Mojtaba Zolnour, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s representative to the Revolutionary Guards, said, “The Noble Koran permits the Islamic Republic of Iran to destroy Israel.” Netanyahu noted that “these statements are being heard by the representatives taking part in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, and the talks continue as normal. We need to stand firm to prevent the Iranians from using weapons of mass destruction to carry out their goals." (J. Post)

Syria is believed to have succeeded in transferring chemical weapons to Hezbollah, Israel’s military affairs correspondent said this week. According to the reporter, Amir Bar Shalom, it appears chlorine gas bombs have made their way from Syria to Hezbollah's hands, despite the IDF's efforts to interdict the transfer. Forces loyal to Syrian strongman Bashar Assad have renewed the use of chlorine gas against civilians in the ongoing civil war there, despite Syria's having supposedly gotten rid of its chemical weapons stockpiles, in an agreement the Obama administration took pride in. Bar Shalom noted that the IDF has recently been repeatedly targeting convoys and facilities along the Syria-Lebanon border because of these developments. Human Rights Watch said in April, 2015 that eyewitness accounts and evidence collected from northwestern Syria "strongly" suggest regime forces dropped toxic chemicals on civilians several times. The group said the chemicals appeared to have been packed into crude explosives-packed barrels that were dropped by military helicopter on rebel-held areas during heavy fighting for the city of Idlib. Nearly 80 years after Yemenite Jews were evacuated from the Arab neighborhood of Silwan, a group of activists has moved into the community’s former synagogue.

According to a news report by The Times of Israel, members of the Ateret Kohanim group, whose goal is to help settle Jews in all parts of Jerusalem’s Old City, moved into the synagogue building Wednesday morning at 1 am.

The new residents were greeted by rock-throwing from local Arabs.

US Secretary of State John Kerry vowed Saturday that inspections to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb would remain “forever” and the emerging nuclear deal would protect Israel in the long run, he told Channel 10.

In a rare TV interview with Israeli media, the secretary accused critics of the Iran deal of “hysteria” and pledged that the US would not sign a bad deal with Iran.
